Constructively, the beam-limiting unit is a system intended to:
− Obtain an X-ray beam with the required geometry;
− Control the opened/closed state of the entrance slit diaphragm, provided the X-ray shut-
ters are used;
− X-ray filter.
An output slit of the collimator is installed on the beam limiting unit (position 4, see Figure
3.5). The design of the collimator output slit suggests the possibility of alignment of the output
beam of x-ray radiation
The X-ray protective shutter mechanism, supplied upon a separate order, can be in-
stalled on the beam-limiting unit. It is designated for the controllable change of open and closed
state of the entrance slit diaphragm. A special-purpose lead shutter closes the slit diaphragm
automatically by spring force and opens it when the electromagnet is energized. The mecha-
nism is provided with the sensors to control the end positions of the shutter with the help of the
System’s operation control system.
The inbuilt X-ray filter ensures the maximum quality of the image with the minimum dose
rate for the inspected individual. The filtering cuts off the ‘soft’ part of X-radiation that consider-
ably influences the resulting dose rate.
An X-radiation dosimeter (option) is used in the System to control the dose obtained by
an individual under any operation mode of the X-ray generator.
3.4.4 Electrics
The distribution panel (position 1 see Figure 3.9) provides power supply to the X-ray
generator, controller, X-ray detector and rotary mechanism.
The System controller (position 4 see Figure 3.9) provides control of all units of the Sys-
tem.
NetCom board (position 2 see Figure 3.9) provide connection of the PC at Operator’s
AWS with the System assemblies. The board obtain data from the controller, X-ray generator
and beam limiting unit (if X-ray protective shutters are used) via serial ports and transmit the
signal via Ethernet connection to Ethernet commutator (position 3 see Figure 3.9). The com-
mutator combines the signal from NetCom board and X-ray detector and transmit to the PC at
the Operator’s AWS.
Electric Motor of Rotary Mechanism controller (position 5 see Figure 3.9) provides rotary
control and communication with the System controller.
