A detailed description of the System design, location and purpose of its main functional
parts and controls is in the Section 3.
1.2.2 Digital Imaging Technology
Obtaining a digital projection X-ray image of a person is carried out by the method of
"scanning with a narrow fan-shaped beam" (slot-scan technology) and consists of the following
stages:
1) The inspected individual stands in a fixed position on the X-ray detector with his/her
back to the detector as close as possible (see Figure 5.1);
2) When starting the scanning process, the X-ray generator is turned on and the rotary
frame starts to move smoothly around the person being scanned;
The path of X-rays is schematically shown in Figure 1.2.
3) During the scanning, the X-rays that have penetrated the body of the person enter the
X-ray detector, which generates electrical signals proportional to the attenuation ratio
of X-ray beam by various tissues of the body and any objects under clothing or in
natural anatomical body cavities;
4) The registered electrical signals are transmitted to a computer via the X-ray detector
data acquisition device for further processing;
5) At the end of the scan, the rotary frame movement stops, the X-ray generator is turned
off, and the X-ray image of the scanned person is displayed on the monitors of the
Operator's AWS.
