Overview

The FERREX 20 V Li-ion Mini Grinder, model 707085 (CGA18MA.9), is a cordless power tool designed for private domestic DIY use, specifically for cutting, roughing, and brushing metal and stone materials without the use of water. It is not suitable for commercial, industrial, or trade applications. For cutting metal, a special protection guard for cutting (accessory) must be used.

Function Description:

The mini grinder operates on a 20 V d.c. battery pack (not included) and is designed for various abrasive tasks. It features a spindle lock button for easy disc changes and an on/off switch for operation. The tool is intended for use with specific grinding and cutting discs, and it requires the appropriate wheel guard to be mounted for safety.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Rated voltage: 20 V d.c.
  • No-load speed: 19500 rpm
  • Spindle thread: M6
  • Wheel diameter: 76 mm
  • Wheel thickness (max): 4 mm
  • Disc bore: 10 mm
  • Cutting capacity: Steel plate 1.2mm, Rebar Ø14mm
  • Max cutting depth: 14.5mm
  • Product dimensions: 245 x 90 x 125 mm
  • Machine weight: 0.78 kg
  • Compatibility: Compatible only with the ALDI range of 20V Xfinity Plus Batteries and Chargers.
  • Standards Compliance: AS/NZS 60745.1, AS/NZS 60745.2.3 (Safety); AS CISPR 14.1 (EMC).

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The mini grinder requires the mounting of a wheel guard and the appropriate disc (grinding, metal cutting, or diamond cutting disc). For cutting, the outer guard/protective guard (8) must be attached to the inner guard/wheel guard for grinding (7). For grinding, the outer guard can be removed. The wheel guard can be adjusted to the desired position without tools.
  • Disc Installation: Discs are installed by pressing and holding the spindle lock button (5), loosening the clamping bolt with washer (6) using the provided hex key (9), placing the disc on the spindle, and then tightening the clamping bolt. When installing a grinding disc, ensure the convex surface faces up.
  • Battery Installation/Removal: The battery pack (1) is inserted by sliding it into the mini grinder until it engages and removed by depressing the battery pack release button (2) and sliding it out.
  • Switching On/Off: To switch on, move the on/off switch (4) forward to the grinder head and press the front part down until it latches for continuous use. To switch off, push down the back of the switch and move it backwards to the rear of the tool.
  • Hand Grip: The mini grinder should be held firmly by the hand grip area (3) during operation.
  • Cutting Operations: For cutting, always use the outer guard/protective guard (8). Work with moderate feed, adapted to the material, and avoid exerting excessive pressure, tilting, or oscillating the machine. The machine should always work in an up-grinding motion. Use diamond cutting discs for stone, concrete, or tile, and metal cutting discs for metal.
  • Rough Grinding Operations: Cutting discs should not be used for rough grinding. Allow the disc to reach full speed before starting to grind. Position the guard so that the least amount of disc is exposed towards the operator. Maintain an angle of approximately 15°-30° between the disc and the work surface for optimal control and material removal.
  • Safety Warnings: Emphasizes wearing personal protective equipment (eye protection, dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves, workshop apron), keeping bystanders at a safe distance, holding the tool by insulated gripping surfaces when cutting near hidden wiring, and never laying the tool down until the accessory has stopped. It also warns against using damaged accessories, operating near flammable materials, or using liquid coolants. Kickback warnings advise maintaining a firm grip, avoiding placing hands near rotating accessories, and using special care when working corners. Specific warnings for grinding and abrasive cutting-off operations include using only recommended wheel types and guards, ensuring proper mounting of wheels, and avoiding "jamming" or excessive pressure during cutting.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: Before any adjustment, servicing, cleaning, or maintenance, the battery pack must be removed. The product is not suitable for repair or maintenance by unskilled persons.
  • Cleaning: Avoid using solvents on plastic parts. Clean the mini grinder with a soft cloth or brush. Do not immerse the mini grinder in water or other liquids, and ensure no liquids enter the housing. Avoid aggressive cleaning agents or metallic brushes.
  • Storage: Remove the battery pack, clean the tool, and store it in a dry, frost-free, well-ventilated place, protected from direct sunlight and dust.
  • Transportation: Switch off the mini grinder and remove the battery pack before transporting. Carry it by its handle and protect it from heavy impact or strong vibrations. Secure the mini grinder to prevent slipping or falling.

Warranty:

The FERREX 20 V Li-ion Mini Grinder comes with a 60-month (5-year) warranty against defects in workmanship and parts from the date of purchase. The warranty covers repair, replacement, or refund at the discretion of the manufacturer. Using non-conforming parts or modifications will void the warranty.

Environmental Protection:

The manual encourages recycling unwanted materials, tools, hoses, and packaging at local recycling centers. It also advises disposing of the product in an environmentally friendly way according to local regulations if it is no longer functional.
