5.0CAREANDMAINTENANCE
5.1PERIODICINSPECTIONS
NOTE:Thetermsuidandoilareusedinterchangeablyinthis
publication.Bothtermsrefertotheuidoroilinthetransmission
andnowhereelse.
CAUTION:Donotspraysteam,water,orcleaningsolutiondirectly
atelectricalconnectorsorthebreather.Fluidsforcedintoelectrical
connectorscancausefalsecodesandcross-talk.Steam,water,
orcleaningsolutionforcedintothebreatherwillcontaminatethe
transmissionuid.Sealallopenings,thebreather,andelectrical
connectionsbeforesprayingsteam,water,orcleaningsolutionon
thetransmission.
Itisveryimportanttocontinuallymonitortheuidlevelandconnections
fortheelectronicandhydrauliccircuits.Cleanandinspecttheexteriorof
thetransmissionatregularintervals.Severityofserviceandoperating
conditionsdeterminethefrequencyoftheseinspections.Makeregular
periodicinspectionsfor:
Propertransmissionuidll.Referto5.8PERIODICFLUIDLEVEL
CHECKS.
Transmissionuidthatisdiscolored,hasastrongodor,orexceededoil
analysislimits.
Presenceofenginecoolantinthetransmissionuid.
NOTE:Transmissionoverhaulisrequiredwhenthetransmission
hasbeencontaminatedwithenginecoolant.AllisonTransmission
recommendsallclutchfrictionplates,lockupclutch,solenoids,and
rusted/damagedpartsbereplacedduringtherebuild.
Presenceoftransmissionuidintheenginecoolingsystem.
Leakinguidaroundttingsorhydrauliclines.
