4 Getting to Know Your Kindle
Bottom View of Kindle
The bottom of your Kindle contains the jacks and ports that
you use when you plug cables into Kindle, the volume
controls, and the charge indicator light.

Feature Purpose
Headphone
jack
Plug in headphones (not included) here to
listen to background music or an audio
book. Attaching headphones disables the
speaker.
USB port Plug in the USB cable here to connect to
your computer.
Charge
indicator light
When your Kindle is attached to the power
adapter or a USB port, an amber LED
indicates that the Kindle battery is
charging, while green indicates the battery
is fully charged.
Power adapter

Plug in your power adapter here to
recharge the Kindle battery.
Volume
controls
Controls the headphone or speaker
volume for audio books and background
music.
