Do you have a question about the Andel Bundguard 5 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Andel BundGuard Issue 5 is a fully automatic bund dewatering system designed to discriminate between oil and water, continuously monitoring the levels of rainwater and oil collecting in a bund. When a pre-set water level is reached, the pump is activated to remove water from the bund. The system is available in three variations: Option 1 and Option 1 + GSM.

Function Description:

The BundGuard system comprises a control panel, a combined sensor and pump unit, a discharge hose, and a fixing kit. The pump/sensor unit is typically installed in a sump within the bund to maintain water levels below the sump's top. The control panel manages the pump(s), displays warning indicators, and provides alarm outputs. It offers indicators for system status, pump failure or malfunction, and high oil levels. The control panel is housed in a stainless steel IP66 enclosure, designed for local mounting outside the bund, ensuring it remains unsubmerged during normal operation. Its control circuitry determines pump ON/OFF states and generates alarms, with customizable behavior via an internal LCD menu system.

The control panel provides zero-volt free contact relays rated at 220Vdc @ 0.1A for various alarms, including Mains failure, High Water, High Oil, System Fault, Pump 1 disable, and Pump 2 disable. LED indicators on the front panel signify these alarms: Green for Power, Pump 1 Active, and Pump 2 Active; Red for System Fault, High Oil Alarm, and High Water Alarm; and Yellow for Pump 1 Disabled and Pump 2 Disabled. The control circuitry includes independent electronic fail-safe (dead stop) "pump disable" circuits to isolate the pump in case of system malfunction, indicated by the respective relay and front panel LED. A momentary activation of the pump disable alarm after an ON to OFF transition is normal and should be ignored, with a 1-second debouncing delay recommended for any system monitoring this output. The LCD screen provides detailed alarm information and system status, displaying the number of pump operations when no alarms are active.

The BundGuard Issue 3A Sensor / Pumps Unit is a combined submersible IP68 unit made entirely from stainless steel. If a second pump is fitted, it is mounted separately from the sensor and pump combination. Each pump has individual multi-core 10m cables for power (230ac or 110V ac) and sensor probes. The sensor unit internally features four probes and one float switch, pre-cut at the factory for optimal dimensions to minimize pump wear and ensure correct operation. These probes can be adjusted by ±25mm during installation to suit specific bund and sump geometries. The Pump stop and common probes must not be adjusted. The attached Ebara Best One submersible pump has a pumping capacity of 140 Litres/minute with a 2-3m head and comes with a barbed 1-inch hose tail for connection to the supplied 5m discharge hose. The fixing kit includes all necessary fixings, glands, and an anti-syphon device for in-line installation in the discharge hose, which must not be located inside the bund.

  • Sensor Probe Levels: High Water Level: 400mm, High Oil Level: 425mm, Pump Start Level: 375mm, Pump Stop Level: 175mm, Common: 150mm.
  • MODBUS: Supports RTU protocol via RS232 or RS485, configurable baud rates (300-57600), and listen mode. Floating point values are stored in little-endian format across two 16-bit MODBUS register locations.
  • GSM (Option 1 + GSM): Enables forwarding of textual alarms via SMS, supports numbers up to 15 digits, and provides SIM status, network status, and operator name.

Usage Features:

The BundGuard Issue 5 offers several customizable features through its installer menu system:

  • Date/Time Setting: Allows the operator to specify the current date and time for history log recording and time-based operations.
  • Number of Pumps: Configurable for 1 or 2 pumps.
  • Current Trip Threshold: Sets the pump trip current threshold (default 2800mA), applicable to both pumps.
  • Auto-Changeover: Enables or disables automatic cycling of pumping duty between two connected pumps, reducing wear and activating the standby pump during high-water alarms.
  • High Water Delay: A time delay (0-60 minutes) to suppress intermittent high-water alarms during heavy rainfall or large water influx.
  • View Current: Allows viewing the current drawn by active pump(s).
  • Overcurrent Trip Protection: Toggles protection for the pump. If a pump draws current higher than the threshold three consecutive times, it will be disabled until the BundGuard is power-cycled.
  • Pump Switching Delay: Sets a delay (3-30 seconds) between recognizing a water level above the start probe and enabling the pump, reducing pumping cycles and wear.
  • MODBUS Communication: Enables/disables MODBUS, sets address (01-247), baud rate, and listen mode.
  • Pressure Monitoring (External Filter): Configurable for external filters, supporting switched or 4-20mA transducer types. Allows setting thresholds, calibration, and viewing current pressure.
  • Flow Metering: Configurable if a flow meter is fitted, allowing enabling/disabling of liquid counting, viewing flow rate, and calibration.
  • GSM Module (Option 1 + GSM): Enables/disables GSM, sets forwarding numbers for SMS alarms, and displays GSM details like SIM status, network status, and operator name.

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety Instructions: Emphasizes the importance of reading all instructions before installation or use, particularly regarding electrical shock risks and proper earthing. Installation work involving high voltages must be carried out with power isolated by correctly trained personnel.
  • Enclosure Integrity: No additional holes should be made in the enclosure to maintain its IP66 rating.
  • Earthing: The control panel must be correctly earthed (grounded) for safe and correct operation.
  • Mains Terminal Cover: The mains terminal cover on the PCB must be replaced if removed.
  • Peripheral Connections: Peripherals should only be connected after isolating the mains supply by breaking the RCD contactor.
  • Maintenance Disconnection: Disconnect the mains supply before any maintenance work.
  • Cable Entry Points: Any unused cable entry points must be blanked off with suitably rated IP65/66 blanking plugs.
  • Error Codes: The system provides detailed alarm indicators and LCD text for various faults, including probe errors, high water/oil, short/open circuits, pump overcurrent, pump disable, pressure limits, battery engagement, and connector disconnections, aiding in fault diagnosis.
  • Event History: The system stores event logs (up to 144 events) accessible via the MODBUS interface, providing historical data for troubleshooting.
  • GSM Network Status: Provides information on SIM card insertion status and network connection status (Searching, Connected Home, Denied Service, Unknown status, Roaming) to help diagnose communication issues. Power-cycling the BundGuard is recommended to re-attempt connection if errors occur frequently.
