Overview

This document is a user manual for an AOC LCD monitor, specifically models 24B1XH2 and 27B1H2. It provides comprehensive instructions for setting up, adjusting, and maintaining the monitor, along with troubleshooting tips and safety guidelines.

Function Description

The AOC LCD monitor serves as a visual display unit for computers, offering a clear and vivid image experience. It is designed to be user-friendly, with various settings to optimize viewing for different content types and user preferences. The monitor supports both HDMI and D-Sub (VGA) inputs, allowing for compatibility with a wide range of devices. It also includes an earphone output for audio. The display features a range of image adjustment capabilities, including contrast, brightness, gamma, and color temperature, to ensure optimal visual quality. For enhanced viewing, it incorporates a "Clear Vision" function that converts low-resolution and blurry images into clearer, more vivid ones. The monitor also includes specific "Eco modes" and "HDR modes" to adapt the display settings for different usage scenarios like text reading, internet browsing, gaming, movies, and sports. For gamers, there are dedicated "Game Setting" options such as "Game Mode" (FPS, RTS, Racing, Gamer 1-3), "Shadow Control," "Overdrive," "Game Color," "LowBlue Mode," "Dial Point," and "Adaptive-Sync," all designed to enhance the gaming experience. The "Dial Point" feature, for instance, places an aiming indicator in the center of the screen, which can be particularly helpful in First Person Shooter (FPS) games. The "Adaptive-Sync" feature helps prevent screen tearing and stuttering in games.

Usage Features

The monitor is designed for ease of use, starting with its physical setup. It can be used with its included stand or mounted on a wall using a VESA-compatible mounting arm (purchased separately). The stand allows for adjustment of the viewing angle, with a tilt range from -5° to 23° for optimal ergonomic positioning. Users are advised to hold the stand when adjusting the angle to prevent the monitor from toppling and to grasp only the bezel to avoid damaging the screen.

Connecting the monitor to a PC is straightforward, requiring a power cord and a display signal cable (HDMI or D-Sub). The manual emphasizes the importance of turning off both the computer and the monitor before connecting cables to protect the equipment.

The monitor's settings are accessed and adjusted through an On-Screen Display (OSD) menu, navigated using hotkeys located on the monitor's bezel. The hotkeys include "Source/Auto/Exit," "Clear Vision/<," "Volume/Image ratio/>," "Menu/Enter," and "Power." The "Menu/Enter" button activates the OSD and confirms selections. The "Source/Auto/Exit" button functions as a hotkey for input selection and, when pressed continuously for about 2 seconds (for D-Sub models), performs an auto-configure function. The "Clear Vision" hotkey allows quick activation and adjustment of the Clear Vision feature, with options for weak, medium, strong, or off settings, and a demo mode.

The OSD menu is organized into several categories: "Luminance," "Image Setup," "Color Setup," "Picture Boost," "OSD Setup," "Game Setting," and "Extra."

  • Luminance settings include Contrast, Brightness, Eco mode (Standard, Text, Internet, Game, Movie, Sports), Gamma (Gamma1, Gamma2, Gamma3), DCR (Dynamic Contrast Ratio), and HDR Mode (Off, HDR Picture, HDR Movie, HDR Game). Note that when HDR Mode is active, Contrast, ECO, and Gamma settings cannot be adjusted.
  • Image Setup allows adjustment of Clock, Phase, Sharpness, H. Position, and V. Position, which are crucial for fine-tuning the image, especially with analog inputs, to reduce noise and adjust alignment.
  • Color Setup offers various color temperature presets (Warm, Normal, Cool, sRGB, User) and a "DCB Mode" (Dynamic Color Boost) with options like Full Enhance, Nature Skin, Green Field, Sky-blue, AutoDetect, and Off. It also allows for individual adjustment of Red, Green, and Blue gain. Similar to HDR Mode, when HDR Mode is active, all Color Setup items are disabled.
  • Picture Boost provides a "Bright Frame" feature, allowing users to define a specific area on the screen and adjust its brightness, contrast, and position independently. This can be useful for highlighting certain content. When HDR Mode is active, Picture Boost items cannot be adjusted.
  • OSD Setup includes options for Language, Timeout (duration the OSD stays on screen), H. Position and V. Position (for OSD placement), Transparence (OSD opacity), and a "Break Reminder" which can be set to remind the user after continuous work for more than one hour.
  • Game Setting offers comprehensive options for optimizing the monitor for gaming, as detailed in the "Function Description" section. When HDR Mode is active, Game Mode, Shadow Control, Game Color, and LowBlue Mode cannot be adjusted.
  • Extra contains settings for Input Select, Auto Config (auto-adjust picture to default), Off Timer (for automatic power off), Image Ratio (Wide or 4:3), DDC/CI (to turn ON/OFF DDC/CI Support), and Reset (to reset all menu settings to default).

The monitor also features an LED indicator that shows its status: white for full power mode and orange for active-off mode.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides clear guidelines for maintaining the monitor to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.

  • Cleaning: The cabinet should be cleaned regularly with a soft cloth and a mild detergent. Strong detergents are to be avoided as they can damage the cabinet. When cleaning, care must be taken to prevent liquid from leaking into the product. The cleaning cloth should not be too rough to avoid scratching the screen surface. Crucially, the power cord must be disconnected before cleaning the product to prevent electric shock.
  • Power Management: Users are advised to operate the monitor only from the specified power source. Unplugging the unit during lightning storms or extended periods of disuse is recommended to protect against power surges. Overloading power strips and extension cords should be avoided to prevent fire or electric shock.
  • Installation and Placement: Proper installation is key to maintenance. The monitor should be placed on a stable surface or mounted securely. Adequate space around the monitor is necessary for air circulation to prevent overheating, which can damage the monitor. The manual specifically warns against tilting the monitor downward by more than -5 degrees to avoid potential screen damage, such as panel peeling, which would not be covered under warranty.
  • Troubleshooting: A dedicated troubleshooting section helps users diagnose and resolve common issues, such as the power LED not turning on, no images on the screen, fuzzy pictures, flickering, or color defects. This section often suggests checking cable connections, power supply, video card settings, and adjusting monitor controls like contrast, brightness, H-Position, and V-Position. It also recommends installing AOC Monitor Drivers and using the maximum refresh rate supported by the monitor. For issues related to strange smells, sounds, or smoke, users are instructed to immediately disconnect the power plug and contact a Service Center.
  • DDC2B Feature: The monitor is equipped with VESA DDC2B capabilities, which allow it to communicate its identity and display capabilities to the host system. This feature aids in proper configuration and can be considered a self-maintenance aspect as it helps the system optimize display settings automatically.
