Chapter 5
Configuring the Switch
Aris ta switche s s hip from the factory in Ze ro Touch P rovis ioning (ZTP ) mode. ZTP configure s the s witch
without user intervention by downloading a startup configuration file or a boot script from a location
spe cifie d by a DHCP serve r. To ma nua lly configure a s witch, ZTP is bypa s se d. The initia l configuration
provides one username (admin) accessible only through the console port because it has no password.
When bypassing ZTP, initial switch access requires logging in as admin, with no password, through the
cons ole port. The n you ca n configure a n admin pa ssword and othe r pa ss word prote cte d us e rna me s .
This manua l configura tion proce dure ca nce ls ZTP mode , logs into the s witch, a ss igns a pa s sword to
admin, as signs a n IP addre ss to the ma na ge ment port, a nd de fines a de fa ult route to a ne twork
ga te way.
Step 1 Provide powe r to the s witch (S ection 4.1).
Step 2 Connect the console port to a PC (S ection 4.2).
As the s witch boots without a startup-config file, it displays the following through the console:
The device is in Zero Touch Provisioning mode and is attempting to
download the startup-config from a remote system. The device will not
be fully functional until either a valid startup-config is downloaded
from a remote system or Zero Touch Provisioning is cancelled. To cancel
Zero Touch Provisioning, login as admin and type 'zerotouch cancel'
at the CLI.

Step 3 Log into the s witch by typing admin at the login prompt.

Step 4 Cance l ZTP mode by typing zerotouch cancel. IMPORTANT: This s tep initiates a s witch
reboot.
localhost>zerotouch cancel
Step 5 After the switch boots, log into the switch again by typing admin at the login prompt.
