7. Configuration
The programming and the software upgrade of the 9dLD location device, is done by using the
Portable Device Manager (PDM) Windows version. The PDM Windows version is run on a PC
and the programming/software upgrade is done via the serial communication (RS232).
For instructions on how to use the PDM Windows version, refer to the Ascom Portable Device
Manager (WinPDM), Installation and Operation Manual, TD 92325EN.
7.1 Parameter Template
A template with settings identical for all 9dLD Location devices can be created in the PDM
Windows version. Either by creating a template from start, or by selecting an already created
location device and save the settings as a template. Refer to the Ascom Portable Device
Manager (WinPDM), Installation and Operation Manual, TD 92325EN.
7.2 Recommended Working Flow
1 Open the PDM Windows version.
2 Create a numbers or a range of numbers in the PDM.
3 Set the parameters, refer to 7.3 Parameters Settings on page 11, or apply a template with
common parameters and then add the individual settings, refer to the Ascom Portable
Device Manager (WinPDM), Installation and Operation Manual, TD 92325EN.
4 Connect the 9dLD location device to the computer with an RS232 cable, see 6.2 Connect
RS232 on page 10.
5The New device wizard will open. Associate the 9dLD location device to a number created
in step 2.
6 Repeat step 4 to 5 for all 9dLD location devices.
7.3 Parameters Settings
The PDM Windows version is used when setting the system registration parameters and the
location parameters, enabling immediate alarm transmission, and when adjusting the range.
The RSSI threshold range can also be set/adjusted manually on the module, refer to 7.3.1 Set
the threshold value on the 9dLD on page 13.
To be able to set the system registration parameters, the following must be known:
•PARK
•LAL
PLI
This information can be retrieved from the system or the handsets in the system.
For handsets registered in the PDM, the registration parameters can be found in the PDM. For
handsets with SIM cards the parameters can be found by placing the SIM card in the SIM Card
Programmer, select Registration and the system that the 9dLD should function within, and read
the parameters.
