154 Cleaning and protecti o n
Cleaning st ains
Stains caused by beverages (e.g. coffee, fruit
juice, etc.) can be treated with a mild deter-
gent solution. App ly the detergent so lution
with a sponge. In the case of stubborn stains,
a detergent paste can be applied directly to
the stain and worked into the fabric. After-
wards, use copious amounts of clean water to
remove the remaining detergent . Apply the
water with a damp cloth or sponge and pat
the fab ric dry with an absorbent, dry cloth.
Stains from chocolate or makeup should have
detergent paste (e.g . ox-gall soap) rubbed in-
to them . Afterwards, remove the soap with
water (damp sponge).
Alcohol can be used to treat stains from
grease, oil, lipstick or a ballpo int pen. Melted
grease or dye must be patted off using ab-
sorbent material.
It may be necessary to re-
treat the a reas with dete rgent paste and wa-
ter.
In the case of genera l so iling of the uphols-
tery and cover mater ial, we recommend hiring
a specialist that has the eq uipment to clean
the sea t covers and ot her fabric surfaces by
shampooing and spray extraction.

Natural leather
Applies to vehicles: with natu ral leather
Audi makes great efforts to maintain the
properties, natural look and feel of interior
leather.
General
We offer many different types of leather on
our veh icles. Most are different types of nappa
leather, which has a smooth surface and
comes in various colors .
The intensity of the color dete rmines the visu-
al characterist ics and appearance . If the su r-
face of the leather has a typ ica l natural look,
then the leather is a nappa leather that has
been left in a relative ly natura l condit ion . This
leather offers particularly good comfort and
breathes well. Fine veins, closed grains, insect
bites, skin fo lds, and subt le variations in color
rema in vis ible . These character istics demon-
strate that the mate rial is natura l.
Natura l nappa leather is not covered by a col-
or finish . It is therefore more sensitive to soil-
ing and wea r, which is someth ing you need to
consider if children, animals or other factors
mig ht prove to be part icularly hard o n the
leather .
By cont rast, leather types that are covered by
a colo red finish layer are more durable. This
has a posi t ive effe ct on the leather's resis t-
an ce to wear and soi ling in da ily use . On the
other hand, the typica l characteristics of natu-
ral leather are barely or not apparent . Howev-
er, this does not mean that the leather itse lf
is of inferior quality.
Care and handling
Becau se of the exclusive nature of the types of
leather that Audi uses and their uniq ue prop -
erties (such as sensitivity to oils, grease, soil-
ing, etc.), you will need to be somewhat care-
ful with these leathers, and a certain type of
care is requ ired . For example, dark clothing
mater ials can disco lor leather seats (especial-
ly if such clothing is damp and was not dyed
correctly) . Dust and dirt particles in pores,
folds, and seams can have an abrasive effect
and can damage the leather surface as well as
we aken seams.
The leather should be cleaned regularly as
needed. Afte r having been used for a relat ively
long time, your leather seats will acq uire a
rich aged finish. This is a characteristic of nat-
ural leathe r and a s ign of true quality. ..,.
