The parking brake warning comes on on ly af-
ter you have driven for longer than 3 seconds
and faster than 5 mph (5 km/h).
The parking brake warn ing light _
(USA)/. (CDN) illuminates when the parking
brake is set and you switc h on the ignition .
A WARNING
Always release the parking brake com-
pletely. A partially engaged brake will
overheat the rear brakes, reduce the ir ef-
fectiveness and cause excess ive wear. This
could lead to brake fa ilure and an accident .
{Q) Note
Only after t he vehicle has come to com-
plete stop, should you f irm ly set the park-
ing brake and move the gearshift lever into
a gear.

children - to rem a in in the vehicle when
it is locked. Locked doors make it mo re
difficult for rescuers to access the pas -
senger compartment in the event of an
emergency. Danger to life!
- Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle. Children could re lease the park-

ing brake or move the gearsh ift lever out
of gear . The vehicle could sta rt to roll
away and cause an accident.
- No matter what the season is, the tem -
perature in a parked veh icle can reach
dangerous leve ls.
Starting on hills

Hill ho ld assist makes it eas ier to sta rt on
hills.
The system is activated when the brake peda l
is depressed
for a few second s.
Aft er releasing the bra ke pedal, the brake
power is held for a
brief moment to prevent
the vehicle from rolling back whe n starting . At
this time, you ca n easi ly begin to move your
vehicle.
A WARNING
-
- If you did not begin moving immed iate ly
after releasing the brake pedal , under
certain circumstances, the vehicle would
begin to roll backwa rd. Dep ress the
brake peda l imm ediately o r engage the
hand brake.
- Should the engine sta ll, dep ress t he
bra ke peda l immed iately or engage the
ha nd brake.
- In order to prevent the vehicle from roll-
ing back unintentionally whe n star t ing in
st op -and-go tr affic, kee p the bra ke ped al
dep ressed for a few se conds before driv-
ing off.
