come back a whi le later and dr ive off, the rai n
sensor will reactivate itself after the vehicle
speed has exceeded 4 mph (6 km/h) .
The rain sensor* is only activ at ed wit h the
wipe r lever set t o position @ . When it st arts
to rain, the rain sensor will automatically acti-
vate the intermittent w iping mode .
To reduce the sensit ivity of t he sensor, move
switch @ down . To increase the sensitivi ty,
move t he switc h up. The higher you adjust the
sensit ivity, the f aster the sensor will react
when it senses moisture on the windsh ield.
The pauses between wiper turns depend not
only on t he sensitivity setti ng, but on the ve-
hicle speed as wel l.
During brief stops, e.g. at a red light, wiper
mot ion will automatically be reduced to the
next lower speed. Wipers already tur ning at
low speed change to int ermi ttent w iping .
When the ignition is turned on, the washer
jets are heated .

to manually activate the wipers as soon
as rain or dr izzle reduces visibility
through the windshield.
- The win dshield must not be treated with
wate r-repellent mate rials. They can in-
crease glare unde r poor visibility condi-
tions such as wetn ess, darkn ess, or when
the sun is low on the hor izon. I n addi -
tion, they can cause the w indshield w ip-
ers to chatt er.
