3.59 Engine oil: checking oil level and cor‐
recting if necessary
Caution
Risk of damage to catalytic converter if engine oil level is too
high!
♦ Drain engine oil until level meets specification.
Required conditions for all engines:
• Engine oil temperature from 100 °C to 110 °C.
• Allow engine to run at idling speed for approx. two minutes.
• Wait approx. two minutes after switching off the engine to allow
the oil to drain back into the sump.
• Vehicle must be level (horizontal).
Procedure:
– If necessary, close engine lid.
– Switch on ignition and activate MMI.
– Press function selector button MENU .
– Select »Car«.
– Press left control button and navigate through following menu
structure:
♦ Servicing & checks
♦ Oil level
– Read off and evaluate oil level on display.
– If necessary, correct oil level:
Oil level Evaluation/measure
At “max” Drain engine oil until level meets optimum level.
Just under “max” Optimum oil level.
Significantly under “max” Fill up engine oil to optimum level (close engine lid to refresh oil level display).
