What to do if the Bard PH11242 compressor contactor does not energize in cooling or heating?

If the compressor contactor isn't energizing, it could be due to several reasons. First, examine the control circuit wiring by checking for an 'R' connection at the unit and ensuring there's 24V between 'R-C'. Another reason may be compressor lockout. Check for 24V between 'L1-Con' on the heat pump control and also check across the high-pressure switch. It could also be due to compressors short cycle protection, so check for 24V between 'CC-C' and 'Y-Con' on the heat pump control. The contactor itself could be defective, in which case you should check for an open or shorted coil winding. If all else fails, the heat pump control might be defective, but check all other potential causes first.
