What to do if the Bard CH compressor will not start in heating or cooling?
    • D
      Dawn WallsAug 11, 2025
If the compressor on your Bard Heat Pump isn't starting, begin by checking for LED illumination on the board and any error codes indicated by a flashing LED. Verify that there's 24 volts AC between R and C. Determine if the compressor delay is active (wait 5 minutes or jump the board's 'speed up pins'). Also, check for low or high pressure faults. Ensure there is a 24 volts AC between Y and C, and between CC & C. A lack of power to the board could be due to missing unit voltage, a bad transformer, or incorrect unit wiring. It may also be caused by no "Y" compressor input signal, no "CC" compressor output signal, or a faulty board.

Why won't my Bard CH Heat Pump unit go into defrost (heating only)?
    • N
      Nancy SmithAug 18, 2025
If your Bard Heat Pump isn't going into defrost mode, try disconnecting the temperature sensor from the board and use a jumper across both the "SPEEDUP" and "SEN JMP" terminals. This should initiate a defrost cycle within a minute. If it does, the temperature sensor needs replacing. If it doesn't, the heat pump control likely needs to be replaced.

Why is my Bard CH Heat Pump unit not coming out of defrost (heating only)?

      Jacob JenkinsAug 23, 2025
If your Bard Heat Pump remains stuck in defrost mode, try using a jumper across the "SPEEDUP" terminal. This should force the unit to exit defrost within one minute. If this works, the temperature sensor likely needs replacement. If the unit still doesn't exit defrost, the heat pump control probably needs to be replaced.

What to do if the outdoor fan motor of my Bard CH Heat Pump doesn't run (cooling or heating except during defrost)?
    • J
      Jeremy ClarkAug 30, 2025
If the outdoor fan motor on your Bard Heat Pump isn't running, check the fan relay on the heat pump control (Com-NC) and consider replacing the heat pump control. Also, check for any open or shorted motor windings and replace the motor if necessary. Examine the capacitor rating and check for open or shorted capacitors, replacing them as needed.

How to troubleshoot a Bard Heat Pump reversing valve that does not energize (heating only)?
    • D
      Danielle MorrisSep 4, 2025
To troubleshoot a Bard Heat Pump reversing valve that isn't energizing, first check for 24V between RV-C and B-C. Inspect the control circuit wiring. If the wiring is correct, replace the heat pump control. Also, check the coil for any opens or shorts. If the coil is faulty, replace the solenoid coil.
