GATHERING FOOT #16
• Trim all four edges of the sample fabric before beginning.
• Select the Straight Stitch #1/green - lengthen to 5mm.
• Place fabric to be gathered under the foot.
• Guide the fabric, keeping the raw edges even with the right edge of the foot, or use the seam
lines on the throat plate.
Notes:
- There are three things that effect the amount of gathers:
1. Fabric Weight - The lighter weight the fabric, the easier to gather.
2. Tension - Increased upper tension will increase the amount of gathering.
3. Stitch Length - The longer the stitch length, the tighter the gathers.
- Use the basting stitch or the long stitch function to increase gathers in heavier weight fabrics
such as woolens and corduroys.
Fabric: Medium weight cotton, 10” x 4”
Needle: 80/12 Universal
Thread: All-purpose sewing
Presser Foot: Wide Gathering Foot #16 (optional accessory)
