Sharpening the Chipper Blade
TKV Units Only
1. Shut down the unit, wait for the impeller to stop, allow the
engine to cool, and disconnect the spark plug wire.
2. Follow the instructions found in Replacing the Chipper
Blade to remove the chipper blade.
3. Sharpen the blade. Lightly grind the cutting edge of the
blade at 40 degrees. The same chipper blade can be
sharpened several times. However, the blade must be
replaced if excessive vibration occurs and/or when the
blade no longer overhangs the chip relief hole in the
impeller back plate.
DANGER
The blade is sharp. Injury can occur without proper
precautions. Always wear heavy duty gloves when
performing maintenance on or around the impeller.
CAUTION
Avoid heat buildup while sharpening. Heat buildup reduces
blade life and can damage the heat-treated hardness
properties of the metal. Evidence of too much heat buildup
is color changes along the sharpened edge.
4. Install the sharpened chipper blade.
5. Reverse Step 2 to reassemble the TKV unit.
6. Refuel and add oil to the engine before attempting to
