Raising îš– opening îš– closing
From the radio ignition position, press the
switch or slide it in the desired direction as
far as the pressure point.
After the ignition has been switched off,
you can still operate the sunroof:
>
For some time if still in the radio ignition
position
>
For about 1 minute after the ignition has
been turned back to position 0 or the
remote control disengaged.
When the roof panel is raised, the sliding
trim is pushed back slightly; when the roof
is slid open, it moves with the roof panel.
Do not close the sliding trim forcibly
with the roof in the raised position, as
this could damage the mechanism.
<
For convenient operation using the remote
control or door lock, see page 32 or 34.

opening and closing
Press the button and hold down beyond
the pressure point.
Further to this, the following movements
are automated:
>
When the roof is open, press the switch
in the Raise direction: the roof moves to the
fully raised position
>
When the roof is raised, press the switch
in the Opening direction: the roof moves to
the fully open position.
Operating the switch again in either direc-
tion halts the movement.
Automatic opening in the Raise direc-
tion can be deactivated. BMW
Service can make this adjustment for you.
<
Protective function
If the sliding/tilt roof encounters an
obstruction during
>
Closing from the raised position
>
Closing from approximately the centre of
the roof aperture,
the closing movement is interrupted and
the sliding/tilt roof is opened again slightly.
Despite this protective function, make
sure that the roof is not obstructed as
it closes; if this precaution is not taken, the
risk remains that thin objects, for instance,
could fail to interrupt the closing move-
ment.
To restrict this protective function, press
the switch beyond its pressure point and
hold it in position. The roof opens only a
short distance.
If the switch is pressed beyond the
pressure point again within approx.
1.5 seconds and held in that position, this
protective function is overridden.
<
When the sliding/tilt roof is being
closed, the closing speed is reduced
shortly before the limit position is reached,
to allow greater responsiveness of the
protective function in this more critical
zone.
<
After a power failure
After the battery has been disconnected,
for example, it is possible that the sliding/
tilt roof will only move into the raised posi-
tion. Please contact BMW Service to have
the system initialised.
