7 Synoptic Microphone Control BMP import
In the Synoptic Microphone Control DCN application, it is possible to import a BMP image to use as a
background for the synoptic display. An example of this could be displaying a floorplan of the congress hall on
screen. The DCN uses all imported BMP images from the “bitmap” sub-directory of the DCN directory. If you
want to remove a BMP image from a Synoptic Microphone Control layout without having to delete the layout
and start a new you can simply delete the BMP file from the bitmap-directory manually. This can only be done
when the DCN software is NOT running.
Any standard Windows BMP image-file can be used but the following restrictions apply:
• Images larger than 1280 x 1280 pixels will be clipped at the right and/or bottom border to fit into
the display.
• If there is not enough memory to load the entire image it is truncated at the bottom border.
• Images that are not compatible with the Windows video-driver in use will not be loaded. (This is a
restriction of Windows itself.) In some cases Windows will automatically convert the BMP file to a
convenient format, although that may degrade the quality of the image. Refer to table 1 to see
which BMP formats can be used with a given video-driver.

Note: Using so-called 24 bit (16.8 million color) BMP files requires a lot of computer memory which
decreases computer performance. Therefore using very large (above 800 x 600 pixels) 24 bit BMP files
is only recommended if the computer has at least 16 MB of memory.

800 x 600 pixels 0.5 MB 1.5 MB
1024 x 768 pixels 0.8 MB 2.4 MB
Note: When using MPC, the client PC will use the BMP file with the same name as the master in the
“Bitmap” subdirectory.
Note: BMP files cannot be rotated. The layout itself can be rotated.
