4 Cleaning the Source

Depending on the use to which the instrument has
been put, the cleaning process may expose the
user to harmful chemicals. Wear appropriate eye
protection and gloves. Read the Material Safety
Data Sheets (MSDS) available from the material
suppliers.
WARNING — BIOLOGICALHAZARD
Depending on the use to which the
instrument has been put, the cleaning
process may expose biological substances.
These substances may be infectious and/or
harmful. Take appropriate precautions and
use appropriate safety equipment. Refer to
local Biohazard regulations and consult the
Safety Representative before starting work.
Note It is very important to wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all
times. This means a lab coat and safety glasses. Always ensure your personal
protective equipment is in good condition
l Only use swabs to clean optical surfaces. Tissues can be used to dry optical
surfaces.
l Only use a brush to clean metal parts
l Cleaning should be performed from the top down.
l The surfaces of the mirrors and lenses are easily damaged — avoid scratching
them with metal tools (tip of brush or tweezers).
l The P2 plate is very delicate and distorts easily — do not touch the surface.
