XI Start-up and Checkout
Usethefollowingprocedureforinitialstart-upoftheboiler:
1) Ifnotalreadydone,ushthesystemtoremovesediment,ux,andtracesofboileradditives.Thisshouldbe
donewiththeboilerisolatedfromthesystem.
2) Filltheboilerandhydronicsystemwithwatermeetingthefollowingrequirementsbelow(alsoseethenoteonthenext
page):
 pHbetween6.5and8.5
 TotalSolidslessthan2500PPM
 Hardnesslessthan120PPM(7Grains/Gallon)
 Pressurizethesystemtoatleast12psiattheboiler
3) Checkallnewpipingforleaksandpurgepipingsectionsthatarelledwithair.SeetheNationalFuelGasCodefor
additionalinformationontestingandpurginggaslines.
4) Ventsystemmustbecompleteandfreeofobstructionsbeforeattemptingtoreboiler.Makesurethatthesiliconecure
timecalledforintheventassemblyinstructionshaspassedbeforeringboiler.
5) Inspectalllinevoltagewiringforlooseoruninsulatedconnections.
6) Removethedustcapfromthecondensatetrap(Figure7.51).Addwatertothetrapuntilwaterrunsoutthecondensate
drain.Reinstallthedustcap.
NOTE
SAFE LIGHTING AND OTHER PERFORMANCE CRITERIA WERE MET WITH THE GAS
TRAIN ASSEMBLY PROVIDED ON THE BOILER WHEN THE BOILER UNDERWENT
THE TEST SPECIFIED IN Z21.13.
