Cal Clarity II Bromine Generator
Testing the Water
In addition to testing the water for levels of calcium,
alkalinity, and pH, you also need to test for bromine
and total dissolved solids (TDS).
The bromine level should be maintained between
2-5 PPM and can be tested with a DPD test kit, or
Bromine test strips, found at any spa/pool store.
If the bromine generator does not produce enough
bromine, make sure the recommended level of
1440 PPM is still present in the spa water. The level
can be tested with a TDS meter (Total Dissolved
Solids), or by taking a water sample to a spa/pool
store.
If the bromine level is too high, remove a small
amount of spa water until the bromine level is
between 2-5 PPM. For more immediate results,
dilution with fresh water will lower the bromine
level.

Starting the Spa with Fresh Water
This applies to spa owners with the Cal Clarity II
bromine generator ONLY.
Prior to lling a spa for the rst time, or after a
routine draining, you will want to follow this start-
up plan to extend water life and performance.
Clean the surface of the spa with Cal Spas 1.
“Multi-Purpose Cleaner”.
Apply a protective coat of Cal Spas “Fast Sheen” 2.
to the acrylic surface.
Fill the spa to the proper water level with normal 3.
tap water. (Do not use soft water.)
Use test strip and balance the spa water.4.
Pour in 16 oz of Cal Spas “Metal Protector” in 5.
the center of the spa.
Allow the water to circulate for several 6.
minutes.
Add Bromicharge™ to the spa water. Use the 7.
table below to determine how much you should
use.
Spa Capacity
Amount of
BromiCharge™
Gallons Liters Pounds Kilograms
300 1135 3.6 1.6
400 1515 4.8 2.2
450 1700 5.4 2.5
500 1890 6 2.7
Use 1.2 lbs. per 100 gallons, or .5 kg per 378
liters.
Turn on jets for 15 minutes. Leave spa 8.
uncovered during this time.
Turn on the Cal Clarity II system and set it to 9.
level 5. See the manufacturer’s owner’s manual
for more information on setting the bromine
generator.
Put cover on spa and allow it to heat up to 10.
desired temperature.
The Cal Clarity II bromine generator automatically
generates and releases free bromine into the spa
water. You will still need to test for bromide and
occasionally replenish it to return the bromine level to
the baseline.
Do not use the Cal Clarity II bromine generator
with a UV sanitation device.
Adding BromiCharge™ to the Water
BromiCharge™ is the chemical additive used with
the Cal Clarity II. It consists of sodium bromide
and can be added anywhere in the spa by simply
dumping it from the container. Do not breathe or
get into your eyes. First aid instructions are on the
BromiCharge™ container.
