Setting the Controller IP Address

Purpose
The purpose of this technical bulletin is to demonstrate the Cambridge Technology
approved methods to change the IP Address of SM1000, EC1000, or ScanMaster (SMC)
controllers.

IP Address
An IP address is a unique number used to identify a networked electronic device. It is
like giving the device a street address. This allows communication of devices on a
network.

Connecting Your Controller to a PC
3.1
Apply power to the controller
Before trying to change the IP Address of the controller, connect the controller to power
and a computer.
Please refer to one of the following documents on how to connect power to the
controller.
If you are using SMC, please refer to the SMC Hardware Reference Manual
, page 16.
If you are using EC1000, please refer to the EC1000 Hardware Manual, page 30.
If you are using SM1000, please refer to the SM1000 User Manual, page 15.
Note: Access to our application notes, software downloads, setup tools, controller

Connect your controller to the PC Ethernet connection
Connect one end of an Ethernet cable from a PC to the controller.

Open Device Configuration Editor

Launch the Device Configuration Editor application from the Start Menu to begin configuration.

Network Settings Tab

Access the 'Network Settings' tab within the Device Configuration Editor to modify IP parameters.

Change IP Mode and Address

Set the IP Mode to Static or Autodetect and enter the new IP Address for the controller.

Remote Administrator Tool

Remote Administrator Procedure

Procedure to change controller IP using the Remote Administrator tool, starting with Broadcast Monitor.

Open Remote Administrator

Launch the Remote Administrator application and select the target controller's IP address.

Change IP Address Mode

Set the IP Address Mode to Static or DHCP assignment for the controller.

Press Save and Confirm IP Address

Save the new IP configuration and verify the address change after potential controller reboot.

Select Controls Tab and Reboot

Access the 'Controls' tab, press 'Hardware Reset' to reboot the controller and apply changes.
