CAME GARD 4 Series Automatic Barrier

The CAME GARD 4 Series Automatic Barrier is a robust and reliable automation system designed for controlling access in private and public car parks, residential areas, and high-traffic environments. Manufactured by CAME CANCELLI AUTOMATICI S.p.A. in Italy, the system adheres to ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 quality and environmental certifications, as well as relevant European Directives and Standards, including the Machinery Directive 98/37/EC, Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2004/108/EC, Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC, and Construction Products Directive 89/106/EEC.

Function Description

The GARD 4 automatic barrier system is designed for efficient and secure vehicle access control. It operates with a 24V DC gearmotor, ensuring smooth and consistent performance. The system's core functionality includes:

  • Automatic Opening and Closing: The barrier can be configured for automatic closing after a set open time, or controlled via various command devices.
  • Obstacle Detection: An integrated amperometric device constantly monitors the motor's drive coefficient. If the bar encounters an obstacle during movement, the system detects an overcharge and reverses direction (during closing, it opens completely; during opening, it stops). After three consecutive reversals, automatic closure is discontinued, requiring manual intervention via remote control or push-button.
  • Pre-Flashing: A flasher connected to the system can be configured to flash for 5 seconds before the barrier begins to move, providing an early warning.
  • Brake Action: The system allows for increased braking action during closing, enhancing safety and control.
  • Slave Function: The barrier can be coupled with another barrier in a master-slave configuration for synchronized operation in wider passages.
  • Maintained Action: For specific applications, the barrier can operate in "maintained action" mode, requiring continuous button press for movement.
  • Total Stop: A dedicated function allows for a complete stop of the barrier, excluding any automatic closing cycles. Restarting requires a keypad or transmitter command.
  • Manual Release: In case of power outage or system malfunction, the barrier can be manually released using a key, allowing the bar to be raised or lowered. This feature is critical for emergency access but requires caution, as an improperly balanced bar can cause abrupt movement.

Usage Features

The GARD 4 barrier is designed for user-friendly operation and configuration:

  • Command Devices: Supports various command inputs, including buttons, key selectors, magnetic detectors, and remote controls. These must be installed at least 1.85m from the gate's area of operation perimeter and not accessible to the public.
  • Adjustable Settings: The control panel features trimmers for adjusting automatic closing run time and amperometric device sensitivity. Deceleration speed can also be adjusted.
  • Radiofrequency Card: Supports various radiofrequency cards (e.g., AF130, AF150, AF26, AF30, AF40, AF43S/AF43SM, AF43SR, AF43S/AF43TW, AF868) for remote control integration. Transmitters can be easily memorized by pressing the PROG button on the electronic card.
  • Accessories: Compatible with a range of CAME original accessories, including semioval aluminum bars (L=4m), various balancing springs (Ø40, Ø50, Ø55), racks, supports for photoelectric cells, luminous cords, flashing dome lamps, emergency battery housing supports, and red reflector strips.
  • Bar Balancing: Proper bar balancing is crucial for optimal performance and safety. The system requires selection of a suitable spring based on the bar's length and attached accessories. The gearmotor must be released to position the bar vertically for spring tension adjustment, ensuring the bar rests at 45° when balanced.
  • End Stop Adjustment: The opening and closing end stops can be precisely adjusted by rotating free dampers. This ensures the bar is parallel with the closed position and at approximately 89° when open, with a slowing phase activated by microswitches.

Maintenance Features

Regular and extraordinary maintenance are essential for the longevity and safe operation of the GARD 4 barrier:

  • Periodic Maintenance (Every 6 Months):
    • Wipe clean the glass surface of photoelectric cells.
    • Check that safety devices (e.g., photocells) are working properly by moving an object in front of them during closing.
    • Remove any obstructions from the photocell beam and the bar's path.
    • Check the state of lubrication and tightness of anchoring screws.
    • Clean photocells with a water-dampened cloth; avoid solvents or chemical products.
    • Ensure no plants are within the photocell's beam.
    • Important: Cut off the main power before performing any maintenance procedures, except for checking safety device efficiency, which requires power.
  • Extraordinary Maintenance: Any repairs, modifications, or significant maintenance must be performed by specialized technicians. A log is provided to record details of such interventions, including operator name, date, technician's signature, and requester's signature.
  • Safety Checks: Users are advised to regularly check the system for anomalies, signs of wear, lubricate joints, and perform functional tests on safety devices every six months.
  • Disposal: CAME emphasizes environmental protection. Packaging components are recyclable solid urban waste. Product components (aluminum, plastics, iron, electrical wires) can be disposed of in normal garbage bins or recycled. Polluting substances (electrical boards, remote control batteries) must be removed and given to qualified service companies for proper disposal, adhering to local regulations.
