22 Hz ELECTROMAGNETIC TRANSMITTER USER GUIDE
Page 9 of 52
OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION
This User Guide will instruct you in the func on, capabili es, use, and
care of CDI T-Series 22 Hz (“Legacy”) pig-tracking transmi ers.
OVERVIEW
Electromagne c pipeline pig loca on and tracking transmi ers
CD42-Tx transmi ers emit an electromagne c eld at the industry-
standard 22 Hz, a frequency that is safe and reliable for use in any
onshore or o shore environment and any pipeline product (water, oil,
gas, ammonia, carbon dioxide, etc.).
This electromagne c eld passes through not only a pipeline wall, but
through surrounding soil or water where it is received by a passage
detector, tracking, benchmarking, or loca ng device such as the CDI
CD52 Bandit, TRAXALL 720/770, or CD47-C Above Ground Marker.
Transmission PaƩ erns
Most T-Series transmi ers may be set for one of three electromagne c
transmission pa erns:
• Standard Mode: transmi er emits a con nuous string of pulses,
one every 1.5 seconds.
• “Skip One” Mode: emits two pulses (one every 1.5 seconds)
followed by a skipped pulse, then two more. This pa ern helps
di eren ate one transmi er from another in a train of mul ple
pigs. Se ng to Skip One mode also conserves ba ery life during
long runs.
• Constant-On Mode: emits a con nuous magne c eld without
pulsing. Constant On is useful when conduc ng benchmarking or
other opera ons where a pulsing signal might be missed.
