MSA G1 Electronic Breathing Apparatus
The PACT check is a system where firefighters monitor and look out for each other
when working as a BA team. It is a quick visual and verbal check a firefighter and their
BA partner conduct on each other before entry to ensure all safety processes have
been implemented. It is undertaken immediately before the fully dressed and equipped
firefighters enter the hazardous atmosphere.
The
PACT
check contains the following steps.
Letter Description
P = PPC, PPE, Equipment Personal Protective Clothing – all structural clothing is
correctly worn.
Personal Protective Equipment – all PPE is carried and
functioning, for example, BA on, torch, portable radio.
Equipment – all necessary equipment is carried and
functioning, for example, branch charged and set to the
correct flow and pattern, TIC on, forcible entry tools
available.

Is your partner’s BA pressurised?
Ï
Check their buddy lights.
Ï
Green is go – verify your buddy is green and has
more than 250 bar.
Check the number of HUD lights on and visible in
your mask:
Ï
Four lights: “You’re in the door” (pressure 271 bar
to 300 bar).
Ï
Three lights: “Maybe”. Check your pressure on
your control module to ensure you have more than
250 bar.
Ï
Two lights: “You do not do”. You have less than
250 bar and have to change your cylinder before
entering.
Positive Pressure Test.
Ï
Pull your facemask away slightly from your face by
the demand valve to ensure you have air flow.
Ï
Ensures your demand valve is securely attached to
the facemask.
