11. Troubleshooting
Warning
Any attempt on the part of the user to
repair a fault may damage or destroy the
keyboard’s integrated electronic
components
➭ Do not attempt to open and repair the
keyboard yourself.
Error messages on powering up or
scrambled characters on the screen:
➭ Check the connection between the
keyboard and the computer system
- If the keyboard is not working
properly:
➭ Check all connections; loose cables
and connectors are a common source
of faults
- If the magnetic swipe card is not
working properly:
➭ Follow the procedure described in
section 5, then try again.
- If the barcode reader is not working
properly:
➭ Follow the procedure described in
section 6, then try again or consult
your barcode reader manual
- If the smart card terminal is not
working properly:
➭ Check that the smart card is
positioned correctly in the reader;
make sure it is fully inserted and the
right way round.
➭ Check the interface (port) settings in
the software on the PC and change
them if necessary.
➭ Reboot the PC and note down the
flashing code (cf. Status Indicators),
call a service engineer, or see point
7 and try again.
➭ Check the smart card’s functions and
type.
