The figure shows a system which requires a RS 485 serial line with several branch loops (“Star”
network architecture). This architecture is created using a BUSREP as a multiplier. The 4 resulting
sections can be up to 1.200 mt. long each and a maximum of 32 devices, including the BUSREP,
can be connected to each one. The first section includes the serial line converter

The figure shows a system which requires a RS 485 serial line that is longer than 1200 mt.
Using two BUSREP as regenerators, it was divided up into 3 sections each of which was shorter in lenght.
In this case there are less than 32 field devices, but they can be distributed on 3600 metres-long line.
