FUELFILTER

GENERALINFORMATION
Thefuellterislocatedinthefueltank.Itispartofthefuelpumpmoduleassemblyandshouldlastthelifeofthe
vehicle;however,itisreplaceableiftheneedshouldarise.Inaddition,themoduleassemblyfeaturesafuelpickup
screentocatchlargerparticlesbeforeenteringthefuellter.
FUELFILTERREMOVAL
1.TurnthekeyswitchtotheOFFpositionandremovethekey,placetheForward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRAL
position,andchockthewheels.
2.Disconnectbattery.
SeeDisconnectingtheBattery-GasolineVehiclesonpage1-3.
3.Removefuelpumpmodule(1).SeeFuelPumpModuleRemovalonpage21-20.
4.Disconnectexhoses(12and13)fromlter(14)(Figure21-15,Page21-22).
4.1.Pullhoseretainerclipstraightupandoutoflter(14).Donotdiscardclip.
4.2.Pullexhoses(12and13)straightoutoflterinletandoutlet.
5.Removelter(14)frommodule(1)anddisposeofproperly.
FUELFILTERINSTALLATION
CAUTION
•Fuellterexhosesarekeyedtoaidproperinstallationintofuelpumpmodule.
NOTE:Thefuellteriskeyedtothefuelpumpmoduletopreventincorrectassembly.
Theinletandoutletexhosesarekeyedtothefuellterportstopreventincorrectassembly.
1.Orientfuellter(14)andinsertintofuelpumpmodule(1)untilfullyseated(Figure21-15,Page21-22).
2.Connectexhoses(12and13)tothefuellter(14).
2.1.Orientexhoses(12and13)withmatchingportinlter(14)andpusheachhoseendstraightintolter
untilfullyseated.
2.2.Pushhoseretainerclipstraightintolter(14)untilfullyseated.
3.Installfuelpumpmodule(1).SeeFuelPumpModuleInstallationonpage21-20.
4.Connectbatteryandsparkplugwire(s).
SeeConnectingtheBattery-GasolineVehiclesonpage1-3.
5.PlacetheForward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRALposition,chockthewheels,andtheneutrallockoutswitchin
theMAINTENANCEposition(Figure24-1,Page24-1).
6.Starttheengineandcheckforfuelleaks.SeefollowingDANGER.

•Repairallfuelleaksbeforeoperatingthevehicle.
7.Ifnoleaksarefound,placetheneutrallockoutswitchintheOPERATEposition(Figure24-1,Page24-1).
