string
Any
number
of
characters enclosed in
quotation marks. The quotation marks
may
be
either single
('
')
or
double (" ").
If
the
delimiter marks must appear within
a string, you must use
the
double quota-
tion marks.
For example,
the
following strings are legal:
"This
'string'
is
okay."
"This
""string""
is
okay."
However, this string is illegal:
"This
"string"
is
not
okay."
Note that
the
double quotation marks are
not
necessary in
the
following strings:
"This
"string"
is
not
necessary."
'This
""string""
is
not
necessary.'
The
ASCII
values
of
the characters in
the
string are used as a list
of
byte values.
