To prevent engine damage (if snowthroweris notused
for more than 30 days) followthe steps below.
SNOW THROWER STORAGE
• Thoroughlyclean the snowthrower.
• Lubrioate all lubricationpoints (see the Customer
Responsibilitiessectionon pages 16-18).
• Be sure that all nuts, bolts and screwsare securely
fastened. Inspectallvisiblemovingpartsfordamage,
breakage and wear. Replace if necessary.
• Touch up all rusted or chipped paint surfaces:sand
lightlybeforepainting.
• Cover the bare metal pads of the blower housing
augerandthe impellerwithrust preventative,suchas
a spray lubricant.
NOTE: A yearlycheckuportune-upby a SEARS Service
Center isa goodwayto insurethatyoursnowthrowerwill
providemaximumperformancefor the nextseason.
ENGINE STORAGE
Gasoline must be removed or treated to prevent gum
depositsfrom forminginthe tank,filter,hose, andcarbu-
retorduringstorage.Alsodudngstorage alcohol blended

gasohnethat usesett!anolor methanol(sometimescalled
gasohor)attractswater. It acts on the gasoline to form
acidswhichdamage the engine.
• Toremove gasoline, runthe engine untilthetank is
empty and the engine stops. Then drain remaining
gasolinefromcarburetor by pressingupwardon howl
drainlocated on the bottom of carburetor.(See Fig.
36).
Ifyoudo not wantto removegasoline,a fuelstabilizer
(suchasCraftsmanFuelStabilizerNo.33500) may be
addedtoanygasolineleftinthetanktominimizegum
depositsand acids. If the tank isalmostempty, mix
stabilizer with freshgasolinein a separatecontainer
and add sometothe tank.

YOUcan keepyour engine in good operating condition
during storage by:
• Changing oil (See page 18).
• Lubricaifng the piston/cylinderaraa. This can bedone
byfirst removingthe spark plug and squirtinga few
dropsofcleanengineoilintothesparkplughole.Then
coverthesparkplugholewitharagtoabsorb oilspray.
Next, rotatethe enginebypullingthe starterropefully
outtwo orthreetimes.Finally,reinstallsparkplugand
attachsparkplugwire.
OTHER
• Ifpossible, store yoursnowthrowerindoorsandcover
ittogive protectionfromdust and dirt.
• Ifthe machinemustbe storedoutdoors,blockup the
snowthrowertobe surethe entire machine isoffthe
ground.
• Cover the snow thrower with a suitable protective
cover thatdoes not retain moisture. Do notuse plastic
or vinyl.
• Starttheengine andrun atSLOW (idle)speeduntilthe
engine stopsfrom lack of fuel.
IMPORTANT: NEVER COVER SNOW THROWER
WHILE ENGINE AND EXHAUST
AREAS ARE STILL WARM.
