3.10 Secondary Clearance Angle Grind
The above instructions address the primary angle. The secondary clearance angle can easily be
created while the tool is still in the collet.
Secondary and additional clearance angles on Ball and Bull Nose need to be aggressive. (lots of
clearance) unless you are machining hard materials.
Ball and bull clearances are very important as there is effective chip thickness event that will cause
rubbinginthelowerareasifclearanceisinsufcient.
Set up for secondary can be done by Generally the same setting as the primary.
leave the motor at the radius that was ground on the primary loosen the collet and rotate the tool
down about 10 to 15 degrees or to desired secondary angle.
or in some cases indexing the tool one slot (15 degrees).
Reposition the upper y axis, bring the tool into the wheel until it touches. Test the swing, if it looks
good your all set.
If more clerance is needed it can be added manually or additional grinds can be made by repeating
the above process.
