MAN-PTS-GB, Revision 9, BSC, 15-FEB-2017 26/46
6 OPERATION, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
6.1 NORMAL OPERATION
During normal operation, the system does not require any particular maintenance. A visual
check must be completed at regular intervals depending on the frequency of operation and
the type of powders transferred. These controls can be done directly by the operators (check of
the vacuum safety filter, the PTS filter, etc.).
6.2 OPERATION WITH SOLVENT WET POWDER
The PTS system can convey dry and solvent wet powder with low MIE safely without nitrogen in
the conveying line.
Danger of explosion!
Additional safety precautions should be taken when handling solvent wet powder
due to the flammability of the solvent:
- Good local ventilation in order to release any vapours around the
container to be emptied;
- Release the electrostatic charges (relaxation time) of the powder due to
a previous process (i.e. centrifuge) before emptying the powder again in
the next process;
- Connect the exhaust of the vacuum pump to a safe venting system;
- Use proper vacuum system designed for vapours atmosphere.
6.3 INSTALLATION SHUT DOWN
In order to stop the PTS, one has to invert the order of the start-up procedure:
1) Stop the transfer ;
2) Stop the vacuum pump.
Risk of damage to components!
Always proceed in the given order or you might damage the equipment.
Risk of accident!
Before disconnecting any part of the PTS, ensure that the system is shut down and
the chamber is not under vacuum or pressure (vent the unit beforehand).
