(4) The engine cranks normally, but does not start.
Clogged air cleaner element
Description
The engine is cranked at the normal speed, but does not start.
Possible Cause
• Crankshaft position sensor
• Engine ECU power supply circuit
• Injector
• Supply pump
• Start signal circuit
1 Use the DST-2 to verify whether the coolant
temperature is at the glow system operating
temperature. In addition, verify whether battery
voltage is being supplied to the glow plugs at
the designated times.
Repair the glow control system. (Refer to the
glow control system check procedure issued by
the vehicle manufacturer.)
2 Monitor engine speed while cranking the
engine. Verify whether engine speed is being
correctly output.
Check the crankshaft position sensor. (Refer to
the crankshaft position sensor check procedure
issued by the vehicle manufacturer.)
3 Verify whether there is a start signal when
cranking the engine by checking the engine
ECU start signal terminal.
Repair the start signal circuit.
4 Check the engine ECU power supply. (Refer to
the engine ECU power supply circuit diagram
issued by the vehicle manufacturer.)
Repair the engine ECU power supply.
5 Check each injector. (Refer to the injector check
procedure issued by the vehicle manufacturer.)
Repair or replace the injector and/or the corre-
sponding circuit.
6 Check the supply pump and the supply pump
drive circuit. (Refer to the supply pump drive cir-
cuit diagram issued by the vehicle manufac-
turer.)
Repair or replace the supply pump and drive cir-
cuit.
