(6) The engine returns to idle speed too slowly, or does not return at all.
Clogged air cleaner element
Description
The time required for the engine to return to idle speed is longer than normal, or the engine does not return to idle
speed.
Possible Cause
• Accelerator position sensor
• Injector
• Supply pump
1 Perform the accelerator pedal position sensor
function check. (Refer to the accelerator posi-
tion pedal sensor check procedure issued by
the vehicle manufacturer.)
Repair or replace the accelerator position sen-
sor and/or the corresponding circuit.
2 Check each injector. (Refer to the injector check
procedure issued by the vehicle manufacturer.)
Repair or replace the injector and/or the corre-
sponding circuit.
3 Check the supply pump and the supply pump
drive circuit. (Refer to the supply pump drive cir-
cuit diagram issued by the vehicle manufac-
turer.)
Repair or replace the supply pump and drive cir-
cuit.
