turn so that the wire is tangent to the capstan circumference and takes off directly toward the
upper pulley. This removes as much slack as possible from the completed wiring.
24. Tighten the thumbscrew, securing the wire.
25. Turn down the air regulator to 2 or 3 psi and switch the Tensioner RUN/WIRE switch to RUN,
then increase pressure just until the wire becomes taut.
26. Rotate the capstan clockwise so that the wire continues to travel over the top of the capstan.
Look closely to see that the wire lays in the groove right next to the flange.
27. Continue to wind the capstan by hand one or two revolutions. Observe that the wire is tightly
seated in the capstan spiral; there is no crossover, nor does the wire skip a groove. There should
be no more than two grooves of capstan showing between the windings.
28. Turn tension up to between 10 and 30 psi.
29. VERY IMPORTANT: On the back of the controller box, switch the Capstan RUN/WIRE
switch to RUN.
30. Press the right arrow key to exit wire mode.
This completes the wiring procedure. At this time, you should run the wire drive a few minutes in
the manual mode to stretch the wire and fully prepare it for cutting.
Though this seems a lengthy and tedious procedure at first, you will find that it proceeds rather
quickly and smoothly after only one or two experiences. As you develop your technique, you might
alter the hand and body positions slightly for even greater efficiency. If you have a second person
available to help with the procedure, it might be easier still. Good results are the goal.
Adjustment and Maintenance
Leveling
Level the saw by rotating the leveling pads that support it. Use a ½” wrench to loosen the lock nut.
Shorten or lengthen the leg by screwing the threaded post in or out. Turn the threaded post by the
flat using a ¼” wrench.
Bow Sensor Positioning
The bow sensor detects the relative position of the cutting wire as it moves across the flat front face
of the sensor body. The sensor is relatively robust and not at all affected by moisture. The signal
will degrade if an appreciable amount of metallic dust collects on the face of the sensor. If this
occurs, wipe it clean using water and mild detergent.
