Oil Pan Installation
Figures 12-81 through 12-85
Tool Required:
J 34673 Straightedge or equivalent
Install or Connect
1. Apply RTV sealant (GM P/N 12346141) or
equivalent to the front cover to block joint and to
the crankshaft rear retainer seal to block joint.
Apply the sealant about 25 mm (1.00 in.) in both
directions from each of the four corners (figures
12-81 and 12-82).

2. Oil pan gasket onto pan.
3. Oil pan to cylinder block (figure 12-83).
4. Slide oil pan back against straightedge using J
34673 or equivalent.
5. Oil pan bolts and nuts but do not tighten.
NOTICE: Refer to “Notice” on page 1.
Tighten
• Bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb· ft.) in the sequence shown
(figure 12-84).
• Nuts to 23 N·m (17 lb· ft.).
6. Oil filter gasket.
7. Oil filter adapter O-ring seal, if equipped.
8. Oil filter adapter bolts (figure 12-85).
Tighten
• Bolts to 25 N·m (18 l ft.).
Inspect
• Oil filter adapter bypass valve and spring for
operation.
• Bypass valve for cracks. If bypass valve looks
damaged in any way, replace the oil filter adapter
assembly.
9. Lubricate new oil filter seal with clean engine oil.
10. Oil filter.
