1. Connect the timing light to the No. 1 spark plug
(figure 6-28). Connect the power-supply leads of
the light to 12V battery.

2. Change the timing plug to the "TIME" position
(figure 6-29).
NOTICE: When the BROWN lead from plug
connected to distributor housing is in line with the
PURPLE/WHITE (T) lead or with the label (TIME), the
electronic spark advance is disabled and the initial
spark timing can be checked and adjusted at this point
if necessary.
3. Start engine and run at low idle.
4. Aim timing light at timing tab at the cramk shaft
balancer (figure 6-30)

5. Loosen the distributor hold-down clamp and rotate
the distributor body to achieve specification of 0
degrees @ TDC.
6. Stop the engine and remove the timing light.
7. Switch the timing plug to the “RUN” position.
NOTICE
When the BROWN lead connected to distributor
housing is in line with the BLACK (R) lead or with the
label (RUN), the electronic spark advance is
functioning and this is the normal operating mode.
NOTE : Engine timing can be measurd at not only
engine crankshaft balancer but also flywheel assy.
The measurement of engine timing at crankshaft
balancer is exact but it is difficult and dangerous. The
measurement of engine timing at flywheel side is safe,
but it is need to adjust zero position of timing plate like
the followings before measurement of engine timing
1) Pull out key from key switch
2) Remove timing plate (6) from the converter
housing. The flywheel shoulder has a single timing
mark on it. Put a white chalk mark on it, so it can
be seen more easily.
