Principles of operation
9.1.4.7 VC - CMV / AutoFlow
– Volume-controlled
– Pressure-limited
– Time-controlled
– Machine-triggered
– Decelerating inspiratory flow
The mandatory breaths are machine-triggered and are not triggered by the patient.
9.1.4.8 VC - SIMV / AutoFlow
– Volume-controlled
– Pressure-limited
– Time-controlled
– Machine-triggered or patient-triggered
– Decelerating inspiratory flow
– Synchronized with inspiration and expiration
In VC - SIMV / AutoFlow, the patient can breathe spontaneously at any time, while the
number of mandatory breaths is predefined. When synchronization is switched on, the
breaths are adapted to the spontaneous breathing efforts of the patient. If spontaneous
breathing effort by the patient is detected during the inspiratory trigger window, a mandatory
breath will be initiated. If an exhalation by the patient is detected during the expiratory trigger
window, the expiration will be initiated.
9.1.4.9 VC - SIMV / PS / AutoFlow
This mode is similar to VC - SIMV / AutoFlow, except that the patient's spontaneous
breathing at the PEEP level during the expiratory phase is pressure-supported with ∆Psupp
when outside the trigger window.
