Sharpening the Bit
Before sharpening you should know:
Keep the Chuck in constant contact with the Cam Pin as you
sharpen—push the Chuck straight into the Port.
Only light pressure is required.
You will hear a grinding noise (zzzzzzzzz) as you complete
each half-turn.
The Sharpening Port will rock as you turn the Chuck and it rides
on the Cam.
Align Guides
Turn the Drill Doctor on. Align either of the
Sharpening Guides (white
lines) with the Cam Pin
on the machine.
Insert Chuck and turn until sharp
Insert the Chuck in the Sharpening
Port. Making sure you keep the
chuck against the Cam Pin, rotate the
Chuck one half-turn in a clockwise
direction—from Sharpening Guide to
Sharpening Guide—an even number
of times. Your motion should be
smooth and even. Always sharpen
until there is no more grinding noise.
The number of turns needed to sharpen the bit depends
on the size.
Dierent size drill bits may require a dierent number of rotations.
Continue to sharpen until you no longer hear grinding noise. This
will result in a Chisel Edge that is clean and straight and the entire
surface from the Cutting Edge to the Heel is nely ground.
