  If the manual override nut on your Emerson Controller is hard to turn, the valve stem might be improperly lubricated (lubricate with grease), the actuator lubrication may have broken down (clean out old grease and replace with recommended lubricant), or the valve packing gland might be too tight (loosen packing gland nuts as necessary). If none of these resolves the issue, refer to valve maintenance, as the valve may be jammed.
