Overview

The Type LR125 is a pilot-operated, pressure-reducing liquid regulator designed for liquid applications. It includes a Type 112 restrictor and a 1/2 NPT Type MR95H/MR95HP pilot. The regulator's primary function is to maintain a desired outlet (control) pressure by adjusting the main valve's opening in response to changes in downstream pressure.

Function Description

The Type LR125 operates on a principle where, as long as the outlet (control) pressure is above its set point, the pilot valve plug or disk remains closed. The main spring force, combined with inlet pressure bleeding through the restrictor, provides downward loading pressure to keep the main valve diaphragm and plug assembly tightly shut off. When the outlet pressure drops below the pilot's set point, the pilot plug or disk assembly opens, allowing loading pressure to bleed downstream faster than it can be replaced through the supply line. This reduction in loading pressure on top of the main valve diaphragm and plug assembly allows the unbalanced force between inlet and loading pressure to overcome the main spring force, opening the Type LR125 diaphragm and plug assembly. As the outlet pressure rises back towards the set point, it compresses the pilot diaphragm against the pilot control spring, closing the pilot valve plug or disk. Loading pressure then builds on the Type LR125 diaphragm and plug assembly, pushing it onto the tapered-edge seat for tight shutoff.

The Type MR95H pilot is a pressure-reducing pilot for outlet pressures ranging from 15 to 150 psig (1.0 to 10.3 bar) and handles inlet pressures up to 300 psig (20.7 bar). The Type MR95HP pilot is a pressure-reducing pilot for outlet pressures from 15 to 400 psig (1.0 to 27.6 bar) and handles inlet pressures up to 600 psig (41.4 bar).

The Type LR125 is designed for liquid service and should not be operated in applications where temperatures are below the process fluid's freezing point or above its boiling point, as these limits are dependent on the process fluid and application pressures.

  • Restrictor: Type 112, 15-5 Stainless steel body.

Usage Features

  • Installation Flexibility: The robust design allows for indoor or outdoor installation. The regulator can be installed in any orientation as long as flow matches the arrow on the main valve body and the pilot vent is pointed down. For easier maintenance, installation with the bonnet up is recommended.
  • Pilot Vent Orientation: When installed outdoors, the Type MR95H/MR95HP pilot should be oriented so that the spring case vent points down to prevent accumulation of rain, moisture, insects, or debris.
  • Control Line Connection: A downstream pressure control line (minimum 1/2 in. / 13 mm) should be connected to the pilot control line or outlet connection, at least 8 to 10 pipe diameters downstream of the regulator in a straight run of pipe, avoiding turbulent areas.
  • Restrictor Adjustment: The Type 112 restrictor controls the regulator's accuracy and speed of response. A setting of "4" is recommended for optimal accuracy, speed of response, and stability. Lower settings provide tighter control (increased opening speed, decreased closing speed), while higher settings provide maximum stability (decreased opening speed, increased closing speed). The "8" position offers the largest flow, most stability, and easiest startup.
  • Travel Indicator (Optional): Provides a visual indication of the main valve's position.

Maintenance Features

  • Periodic Inspection: Regulator parts are subject to normal wear and must be inspected periodically and replaced as necessary. The frequency of inspection depends on service conditions, applicable codes, and company procedures.
  • Diaphragm and Plug Assembly Maintenance: The diaphragm and plug assembly can be replaced as a single unit or individual components. Instructions are provided for disassembly and reassembly, including specific torque values for components.
  • Travel Indicator Assembly Maintenance: The travel indicator assembly can be removed and installed without removing the bonnet. Maintenance involves checking for damaged or worn parts and replacing them as needed.
  • Type 112 Restrictor Maintenance: Regular inspection and cleaning of the restrictor are recommended to ensure optimum performance, as mineral deposits, dirt, or sediment can clog it, slowing unit response. Instructions are provided for disassembly, inspection, and cleaning of the restrictor.
  • Strainer Maintenance: The internal inlet strainer prevents large particles from entering the main valve. If continuous particles are present in the flowing media, upstream filtration is recommended, and the strainer should be regularly inspected and cleaned.
  • Lubrication: When lubrication is required, a good quality lubricant should be lightly coated on recommended parts. Specific lubricants (Lithium Polymer Type Lubricant, Anti-Seize Lubricant) are specified for various components.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive guide is provided to address common issues such as outlet pressure fluctuations, fluid leaks, and regulator opening/closing problems, with suggested solutions.
