Connect the external storage device to the printer and operate 
according to the instructions displayed on the LCD panel. To 
learn more about connecting an external storage device, see 
“Connecting an external device” on page 60.

Caution:
Do not remove the storage media from the external storage device 
or disconnect the cable from the printer while backing up.
Printing with an External Device
You can connect the printer with an external device such as an 
MO (magneto-optical) drive, Zip drive, CD-R/RW drive, or USB 
Flash Drive, and print data directly from these devices.

Caution:
❏ Not all of the devices that can be connected with USB cable 
are supported. Contact your regional customer support for 
details.
❏ Do not connect USB devices other than an external storage 
device, such as a printer or mouse. The printer may fail. 
❏ Do not connect the external storage device while the 
computer is accessing the memory card inserted in the 
printer.
Note:
❏ A USB cable is necessary in order to connect the printer with the 
external storage device.
❏ Use a USB cable of 2 meters or less.
❏ A USB hub cannot be used.
