SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE
Starter motor will not operate • Shift handle not in NEUTRAL.
• Fuse blown.
Engine will not start • Not following starting instructions. Refer to Start-
ing, Stopping, Shifting
on page 12.
• Fuel tank empty.
• Fuel hose kinked.
• Fuel system contaminated with water or dirt.
• Fuel system not primed after running out of fuel.

• Fuel filter obstructed.
• Throttle not at IDLE. Return throttle to IDLE.
• Spark plugs incorrect. Refer to Specifications on

• Spark plugs improperly gapped, carboned,
burned, or wet.

Engine will not idle properly • Debris on propeller.
• Spark plugs damaged or incorrect. Refer to
