13.1 GENERAL POINTS
- It is essential to rinse the entire on-board water system the first time the boat is used (the water system is protected in
the factory by a non-toxic antifreeze).
- The water tanks may have had an anti-algae treatment using a copper sulphate based product. It is advisable to renew
the treatment according to the area in which the boat is sailing.
- Drain all the water systems during winterisation (in particular the cockpit shower and water heater) to avoid damage
from freezing.
- Clean/change the filters regularly.
- Regularly check water-tightness of joints in
the water system installations. Check that
screws and bolts are well tightened and replace
them if they are worn or corroded.
- Disconnect the onshore shore water supply
before leaving the boat (if fitted).
- If the boat is sailing in temperatures below
freezing, antifreeze can be used in the water
systems: use a non-toxic antifreeze for potable
water.
NEVER USE AUTOMOBILE ANTIFREEZE:
RISK OF POISONING.
