Fig. 19: DIP configuration Program 14
The ports and functions in this program allow to represent a complete level
crossing. Please take into consideration the schematic illustration »Unpro-
tected level crossing« in the appendix to the present instruction manual.
Inputs E5 to E8 and outputs A4 to A8 allow to realize a level crossing with
flashing lights. E5 'Train’s contact Beginning' activates both flashing lights
at outputs A4 and A5 (recommended external protective resistor for LEDs:
1000 ohms/1 kΩ) and the main stop sections on both sides of the track at
A6. When the level crossing is protected by the gates, only the main stop
sections are actuated for the time being.
To avoid front-end collisions of two vehicles a second stop section placed
behind may be installed on each side of the track. To activate these stop sec-
tions, each one of the stop sections has been allocated an activation input.
E7 activates stop section 2, the corresponding output is at A7. E8 activates
stop section 3, the corresponding output is at A8. The first car to approach
the level crossing drives over the sensor at E7 for instance and drives up to
the main stop section directly in front of the level crossing. If the level cros-
sing has been actuated, driving over E7 activates stop section 2 so that any
vehicle that follows will pull up at the stop section placed behind. The major
point here is that the activation sensor should be placed between both stop
sections. The “Train’s contact End’ connected to E6 switches off the flashing
lights and the main stop section again.
To ensure some space between the vehicles when these drive on, stop sections
3 and 4 are not cleared until a certain delay, adjustable via Poti 2, has passed.
The other three ports that are still free can be described as follows: E1 acti-
vates a component that is connected to output A1. The activation period
can be adjusted using Poti 1. E2 independently activates another compo-
nent that is connected to output A2. That activation period is constant and
1 second. Finally, E3 activates a third component that is connected to out-
put A3. That period is also constant and 15 seconds.
