What to do if my Fantech VHR150 Fan has poor air flows?
    • M
      Mary WagnerJul 31, 2025
If your Fantech Fan has poor air flows, start by checking the following: * Clean the exterior hoods or vents if the 1/4" (6mm) mesh is plugged. * Remove and clean the filter if it's plugged. * Remove and clean the core if it's obstructed. * Check and open any indoor grilles that are closed or blocked. Additionally, an electrician should check the power supply voltage if it's inadequate. Check the duct installation in case the ductwork is restricting airflow. Increase the speed of the HRV (i.e. change unit control from REDUCED to NORMAL speed) if the speed control setting is improper. If the airflow is still unbalanced, have a contractor balance the HRV airflow. Also, have a contractor reconnect the ducting if it has fallen down or been disconnected from the HRV.

Why does the supply air from my Fantech Fan feel cold?
    • K
      Kevin LeeAug 4, 2025
If the air from your Fantech Fan feels cold, it might be due to the location of the supply grilles, which could irritate the occupant. To address this, locate the grilles high on the walls or under the baseboards. You could also install ceiling mounted diffuser or grilles so as not to directly spill the supply air on the occupant (e.g. Over a sofa). Try turning down the HRV supply speed. A small duct heater (1kw) could be used to temper the supply air. Also consider that the placement of furniture or closed doors is restricting the movement of air in the home. If the outdoor temperature is extremely cold and supply air is ducted into the furnace return, the furnace fan may need to run continuously to distribute ventilation air comfortably.

What to do if there is persistent condensation on the window with my Fantech Fan?
    • R
      raymondhayesAug 9, 2025
If you notice persistent condensation on the window when using your Fantech Fan, try reducing the desired level of humidity using the dehumidistat control and combine this with the use of continuous exchange mode. If that doesn't resolve the issue, have a contractor balance the HRV. Also, make sure to open curtains or blinds to improve air circulation near the windows.

Why is the air too humid with my Fantech Fan?
    • K
      Kristin KnightAug 12, 2025
If your Fantech Fan is causing the air to be too humid, reduce the desired level of humidity using the dehumidistat control and combine this with the use of continuous exchange mode. If there was a sudden change in temperature, wait until the outside temperature stabilizes (especially in winter), as heating can also improve the situation. Ensure you store the majority of your wood outside if you're using wood for heating, as even dried wood contains a significant amount of water. Also, verify that your dryer vent is exhausting outside. Lastly, open curtains or blinds to improve air circulation near windows, and if you have a well-sealed basement door, open it or install a grill on the door.

How to fix condensation or ice build up in insulated duct to the outside of my Fantech VHR150 Fan?
    • S
      Sonya DiazAug 17, 2025
If you observe condensation or ice buildup in the insulated duct to the outside of your Fantech Fan, ensure that you tape and seal all joints to create a complete vapor barrier around the insulated duct. Additionally, tape any holes or tears in the outer duct covering and ensure the vapor barrier is completely sealed.

What to do if Fantech Fan HRV and/or Ducts frosting up?
    • J
      Jamie McfarlandAug 21, 2025
If your Fantech Fan's HRV and/or ducts are frosting up, have an HVAC contractor balance the HRV airflows. Note that minimal frost build-up is expected on the core before unit initiates defrost cycle functions.
