Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting the shredder begins with checking the machine for possible faults. Possible
causes for machine malfunctions include:
Paper feed problems
CD/DVD feed problems
Electrical problems
Mechanical problems
Paper Feed Problems
Paper can become jammed if the paper is misfed. Paper may also jam if the waste bin is full
or if there is a build up of paper shreds along the underside of the cutting assembly.
The Remove Paper, Bin Full, and Sheet Capacity icons help to identify paper feed problems.
If the Bin Full LED is on, check the waste bin and empty if needed. Replace the bin and
make sure the door open switch is fully engaged by closing the door. The Bin Full LED
should go off.
CAUTION! Never attempt to force jammed material through the machine.
The 225i, 225Ci, and 225Mi shredders use several methods to automatically reduce jam and
misfeed situations.
If paper misfeeds and shredding stops wait 6 seconds for the shredder to attempt to
power through the misfeed. If it is unable to power through, the shredder will attempt
to reverse the paper out.
If the power feed does not clear the jam, and the red indicator stays on, reduce paper
by pulling out excessive amount out until the red light is off and the yellow lights are
on. Continue shredding.
Electrical Problems
The most common electrical problems result from:
1. An opened cabinet door
2. Loose wires
3. A defective PC board
4. Safe Sense feature being engaged
5. Anti-Jam module detecting paper overload
6. Bin full detection system not operating correctly
If the waste bin is not placed properly in the cabinet, the shredder will not operate:
The Door Open LED will help to identify this problem.
Check the door to make sure it closes properly and engages the door open switch.
Press the Power button on the Control Panel, and then press the AUTO button.
If paper is in the entry slot, and the shredder does not operate:
Press and hold the Forward switch briefly to start the shredding operation.
Check Anti-Jam indicator panel to see if module is indicating paper overload.
Make sure Safe Sense is not engaged.
If the PC board is defective:
The shredder may not run at all.
Another indication that the PC board is defective might be if the shredder runs in
reverse, but not forward or the LED lights do not turn on.
