Overview

The Fluke Networks TS®44 PRO Test Set is a robust and versatile telecommunications test device designed for technicians working with POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) lines, particularly in environments where ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) data service is also present. This next-generation test set incorporates advanced features for improved reliability, durability, and ease of use in various field conditions.

Function Description:

The primary function of the TS44 PRO Test Set is to allow technicians to butt in on a live ADSL line to test POTS quality without disrupting the data service. This is achieved through its ADSLSafe™ technology, which prevents the test set from going off-hook and interfering with high-speed data. It provides comprehensive testing capabilities for line voltage, loop current, and dial tone, along with features for programming and speed dialing. The device is designed to be user-friendly, with a low-profile keypad and clear indicators for various line conditions. Its two-way hands-free speakerphone and amplified speaker enhance productivity during testing and communication.

    • Water Resistance: Designed to be rain and moisture resistant.

Usage Features:

  • Data Protection: The TS44 PRO features DataSafe™ technology, including ADSLSafe™, which allows the unit to connect to a live ADSL line without disrupting data service. A single-button override for data lockout allows technicians to access POTS on lines carrying both POTS and ADSL.
  • Line Testing:
    • Data Test: Connects to Tip and Ring. If high-speed data is present, an alarm sounds, and the unit locks out. If no data, it goes off-hook.
    • Voltage Test: In Monitor mode, the Vdc&mA/TEST key displays line voltage. LEDs indicate voltage levels: red for 0-2 Vdc (LO), flashing red for 2-42 Vdc (LO), flashing green for 42-53 Vdc (LO and HI), flashing red for 53-140 Vdc (HI), and red for >140 Vdc (HI).
    • Loop Current Test: Off-hook, pressing Vdc&mA TEST indicates loop current. A flashing red mA LED signifies less than 23mA, while a flashing green mA LED indicates 23mA or greater.
  • Dialing Capabilities:
    • Tone and Pulse Dialing: Configurable for Tone dial by default, with a TONE/PULSE key to switch to Pulse dial when off-hook.
    • Last Number Redial (LNR): Available when off-hook.
    • Speed Dialing: Allows storage of up to 10 numbers (0-9) with 23 digits per memory. Numbers are programmed in Monitor mode using RCL, STORE/PROG, and the memory location key. Stored numbers are dialed by going off-hook, pressing RCL, and then the memory location key.
  • Speakerphone Functionality:
    • Two-Way Hands-Free Speakerphone: Activated/deactivated by the SPKR key when off-hook.
    • Receive-Only Loud Speaker Mode: Activated by pressing MUTE while the two-way speakerphone is active. Pressing MUTE again restores two-way speakerphone. This mode can be set as the default by putting the test set in Monitor mode, pressing STORE/PROG, and then MUTE.
    • Amplified Speaker: Provides clear audio during calls.
  • Keypad and Indicators: Low-profile keypad with a protection ridge, low battery warning, mute indication, and polarity indication.
  • Volume Control: Adjustable volume levels for comfortable use.
  • Power: Line and battery powered, ensuring continuous operation.
  • Passive Monitor: Allows monitoring of lines without interfering with service.
  • Hearing Aid Compatible: Designed for use with hearing aids.

Maintenance Features:

  • Durability: The TS44 PRO is built for extreme conditions, featuring DropSafe™ 20 feet (meaning it can withstand drops from 20 feet) and RainSafe™ protection. Its enhanced weatherproof/waterproof case design ensures reliability in harsh environments.
  • Mounting: Includes an extra-large steel locking belt clip that can be mounted top or bottom for universal needs, providing secure attachment and easy access.
  • Strain Relief: Features line cord strain relief to protect the cable from damage and extend the life of the unit.
  • Software Upgradeable: Allows for future software updates, ensuring the device remains current with new technologies and features.
  • Battery: Uses a standard 9V alkaline or lithium battery, which is easily replaceable.

The TS44 PRO Test Set is a comprehensive tool designed to enhance technician productivity and reliability in the field, offering a blend of advanced features, robust construction, and user-friendly operation.
