Warning
Brake Booster
Brake booster strengthens braking effect with
engine vacuum power. If the engine stops run-
ning when vehicle is running, depress brake
pedal and stop the car. The backup vacuum
pressure is enough to stop the car for once or
twice, but no more than twice.
Anti-lock brake system (with ABS
warning light)
In emergency brake or braking on skiddy road,
anti-slock brake prevents the wheel from being
locked. This helps stabilizing the driving direc-
tion and steering function of the vehicle.
Effective methods to depress ABS brake
pedal:
When ABS is functioning, you can fell the
pulse of brake pedal, and hear noise. If this
happens, depress the brake pedal harder to
keep ABS working. Do not depress brake
continuously in emergency brake, it increases
stopping distance.
ABS starts working when vehicle is acceler-
ated to 10km/h and above. When vehicle is
decelerated to 5km/h and under, ABS stops
working.
Depressing brake pedal on skiddy road surfac-
es such as manhole, steel sheet at construction
sites and joints in bridge in rainy day activates
ABS.
When engine starts cranking or vehicle starts
moving, clicks or motor noises can be heard
from engine compartment. This shows ABS is
doing self-check. That is not a problem.
When ABS is functioning, the following
conditions may occur. They are not signs of
problems.
Operation of ABS, the pulse of brake pedal
can be heard, and vehicle and steering
wheel vibration can be felt. Even when
the vehicle is stopped, there is still motor
noise from engine compartment.
At the end of ABS function, the brake
pedal may move a little forward.
If engine stalls, do not depress
brake pedal continuously. Because,
vacuum pressure gets lost every time
the pedal is depressed.
Even if the vacuum pressure is
totally lost, the brake still functions.
But depress the brake a lot harder, the
stopping distance increases, too.
